Spectrum wave 2 router

Spectrum wave 2 router

Spectrum offers an intriguing Wave 2 wifi router. I have personally tried spectrum wave 2 routers and to be honest; it works fine.

But before I dive into details of this router, here are some basic knowledge about wave 2 routers.

What is Wave 2 router?

There was a time when wifi was slower than your wired network, but it's been catching up fast. And today, it's getting even faster with the arrival of 802.11 AC.

Wave 2 routers are essential because the wifi going beyond 1 gigabit per second your wireless access points can handle more traffic.

Speeding the pace of business and the apps and services that you deliver to your employees over wifi can become more pervasive and more intelligence.

Wave 2 routers are unique because they use a new technology called mu-mimo, and this allows the router to connect to multiple devices all at once.

P.S: Duh, My Normal router also allows all the devices to connect at once. ( Please, Read Further ! )

So if you have a four-stream router and say you have two stream laptop, one stream smartphone and one stream tablet you can use all of your router's bandwidth meaning fewer slowdowns.

Wave 2 router is especially essential for public spaces where one router provides wifi hotspot to a ton of devices.

And, If You connect to four stream client, you can have a maximum theoretical speed of nearly 3.5 GIGABITS PER SECOND.

Types of Spectrum Wave 2 Routers

So spectrum offer three-wave 2 routers, it is not branded as anything but a spectrum router, and its made by three different companies.

If I were had to pick one router among these three, I would go for Arris. Arris is a brand, and a lot of people use it. Their software and hardware is top-notch quality.

Arris is trusted by millions of people, and it has built one of the best routers. So Yea, Arris would be my pick.

#Second Opinion

You can also go for Askey, It has excellent features, and arris lacks in some of the features. If you are a hardcore gamer, watches a lot of Netflix movie then go for Askey.

It is faster among all the three and seeing as how they’re all the same price. If you face any issues with it, you should be able to swap the router by informing to spectrum.

Its rental system and you have to pay $5 per month for the router, but if you have a budget then go for personal router. It is always advisable to buy your own router here is a small list.

    • Exactly. They put this mess in our house. We gave them a great survey before realizing the router is horrible. The service has gotten worse. Extremely disappointed in the change. It’s as if they’ve made the settings slower while claiming to give faster service. 🙁

    • you probably have it on DHCP which in short is a dynamic ip try setting it to static and it might help or it might also be that you have DHCP set to reset every hour and your device is having a hard time talking to the dns in order to get its self the assigned ip address

  3. I have the Sagecom model, given by default by Spectrum. And honestly, im super surprised by how solid it is. Great speeds and it gives me far superior coverage on a 2 floor home than my previous ISP’S supplied routers, that supposedly gave me the same range did.

For once I don’t feel the need to go out and upgrade a default given router. Plus its a nice stylish design.

  4. I have the spectrum RAS2V1K Askey router. The coax cable is connected to a E31U2V1 spectrum modem, then an ethernet connects this to the askey router. I’m trying to get my actiontec WCB3000N router to act as a wifi extender, by connecting it to a coax cable tv outlet at the far end of my house. This worked perfectly with my frontier fios service, by just hooking it up (nothing else required by me). Now that I have spectrum internet, I’m unable to get the coax light on the actiontec router to light up (I can connect to it, but its unable to access the internet).
I called spectrum tech support, and the tech had no idea. She told me to go talk to a person at best buy or someplace similar. Can you help me figure out how to get wifi extenders to work? I have the spectrum router in the center of my house, so I need an extender at both ends of my house. The house is built like a bunker (all interior and exterior walls are concrete, with poured steel door frames), so wifi signals don’t reach very far.
    Thanks for your help

    • If you don’t have a ECB 2500c ethernet to coax combiner adapter it will NOT work. You have to take an ethernet cable jumper from your router to the above mentioned combiner and then run your coax from the combiner adapter to the wall or floor or wherever your coax penetrates into the room. Then take your WCB3000N to your distant room and plug in THAT coax. All you’re doing is making your already ran coax cable an ethernet cable, thats all. I guarantee the reason its not working anymore is because Frontier uses Cat 5 or Cat 3 connections for the input to the modem and we at spectrum use coaxial cable so I’m willing to bet the reason it wont work now is because the coax you were using to complete your circuit from main router room to extender is now being used as the feed for the modem that runs out to our taps (utility poles) and not networked into the rest of your coaxial wires anymore.

    • I disagree about the arris router being the best choice because of the remote control thing. It can allow throttling by the isp which I had a lot of trouble with when I had at&t and their arris bgw210 gateway modem. I don’t trust the isp to have control over how fast certain websites are on certain devices. At&t throttled google searches on my iPad and iPhone and also slowed other websites. After using my own router with AT&T (which I happened to buy an askey wave 2 spectrum router) and putting theirs in bridge mode it was fast on those devices. Now I have spectrum internet because I moved it was the only fast service on my street.

  5. Askey here…

Have you solved this mystery problem when trying to login in to the interface? No login, just this…splash page – TW claims that some users with this brand are able to access but they don’t know what the problem is….and don’t give a sh##

    • Hey Dave,

I have removed your router info due to privacy reasons. Can You try this?
1.Open your internet browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Internet Explorer)
2.Type 192.168.1.1 (the most common IP for Askey routers) in the address bar of your web browser to access the router’s web-based user interface.
3.You should see 2 text fields where you can enter a username and a password.
4.The default username for your Askey router is admin.
      5.The default password is admin.
6.Enter the username & password, hit “Enter” and now you should see the control panel of your router.

  6. I recently switched out my older Spectrum cable Ubee modem/router. Spectrum provided two separate devices, one being the Motorola Modem (model: E31U2V1) and Askey router (Model: RAC2V1K wave 2) My smart devices as in cameras, water sensors, smart switches, had difficulty being discovered by the new router. Finally two out of three connected. The D-Link cameras cannot. All are dependent of 2.4ghz. This router only uses “one” network name/channel combining 2.4 and 5ghz. Even Spectrum agrees I would need to configure which devices get what network, 2.4 or 5. But Spectrum has these units built them that prohibit customers ability to configure. Another problem: My television watching is basically via Spectrum’s App, and is internet dependent. (No cable boxes needed) My old Ubee modem/Router worked fine with it, but now both my TV’s get interrupted by the dreaded “circle” or buffering! Please help or suggestions please. Thanks.

    • Hey AL,

Try to troubleshoot sometimes devices doesn’t show up but after troubleshooting they pop up. Secondly, buffering only happens when internet speed is slow. If your Internet is fine then it maybe spectrum end issue ask them why it is happening and if it doesn’t help ask them for new router and try with that. If you can afford buy your own router here are some list of routers : https://findrouters.com/spectrum-router/

    • The 2.4ghz and 5ghz are still independent. They are just named the same. Go to 192.168.1.1 and username is admin password is admin and change the network name of one of them. Also if you have to connect those cameras with WPS you HAVE to go into the router settings at above address to turn wps functionality on for either individual wifi band (2.4 or 5) so in your case it would have to be turned on the 2.4 band.

  7. Spectrum router (Sagemcom RAC2V1S) works great in our house, but I also need it to work in a separate casita to which an ethernet twisted pair cable runs. I put in a linkSys extender in the Access Point mode into which the ethernet is plugged (and which is connected to a LAN port on the router). This works, but the extender needs to have a different SSID which is kind of hokey since if you move outside near the casita then you have to reset your wifi to the extender’s SSID.

After some research, it looks like if the router has MU-MIMO functionality I can have the same SSID for both the extender and the router. But I can’t figure if the RAC2V1S has MIMO capability. Or am I simply doing something wrong?

    • Hey Tom,

I am not sure but I don’t think Sagemcom RAC2V1S comes with MU-MIMO functionality. Still ask spectrum support team.

  8. Spectrum just replaced my Sagemcom router with an Arris SAC2V1A, now all my smart plugs won’t connect because Spectrum says that the Arris 5 GHz and all my plugs says use only 2.4 GHz. When I talked to Spectrum they told me I would need to go buy my own router. Do you have any suggestions to fix this problem or do I just need to go buy another router????

  9. I had a Askey Wave 2 and could log into the router with the default address. However, a technician had to come to the house and change the wire running to my house. As a courtesy he gave me the newest router a Wave 6, do not get this router as you cannot sign into the router settings via IP Address anymore it is on their Spectrum App. I went back to the Wave 2 but cannot sign into the default Ip Address with it any idea as to why not?
